We’ve recently come across Canadian musician Claire Boucher, who performs under the name Grimes, and we just can’t get enough. Her music is a scintillatiling concoction of propulsive yet skewed bedroom pop underpinned by distinctive childish warbling. Imagine a delirious melting pot filled with Joanna Newsom, Daft Punk, Kate Bush, and Girogio Morodor. In short it could be classified as “post everything maximalist pop”, as musicologist/grumpy old bastard Simon Renoylds recently argued.
But crucially it’s far catchier and less pretentious then that description makes it out to be. Grimes has a new LP titled Visions due out later in the month, and the singles already released have been uniformly excellent. Listen to them below.
